Re: How to create a Page Template in DotNetNuke part 2 of 2 - Video #103

I have a couple of questions about the Page Templates:
1> Regarding the Modules. Does the Template create a copy, or a reference the the modules? Is it possible to capture the settings but not content.

2> Is it possible to use the page template on a different portal? Of course you would need to have the modules installed first if it is.

Hi Phil,

1 - It will create a copy, not a reference, and it will carry both settings and content. You would have to open the template file in a regular text editor to be able to remove the content from within the template, but this may actually corrupt the template file in case you delete more than what you should
- A side note: Not all 3rd party modules out there implement the iportable interface for their modules. This is the interface necessary to make a template export to work. So you may come across modules that can't make use of templates.

2 - Yes it is possible, but on top of having the modules there you will also need to have the skin there as well if the template had a skin set to its page.

Cheers,
Aderson

Re: How to create a Page Template in DotNetNuke part 2 of 2 - Video #103

I have a question about portal template.
I have a portals uses portals skin (not host skin!) when I create portal template no errors.
But when I create a new portal with prepared portal template everything is OK except the ascx and js files of the skin!!!
is this related with the dotnetnuke security/limitation or some configuration at my system???

Make sure you add those file extensions to the list of allowed files under host/host settings. Here is a video for that.
