I have been poking around the 2SexyContent.org site and searching around the web, but the documentation for 2SexyContent does not seem to be currently available.  It looks like the site may be in the middle of an update and the documentation section is still to come.

After defining a content type in 2SexyContent, is there an API to use for importing data into these data types?  I would like to avoid manual data entry whenever possible.

An alternative to using the API for import is to point the 2SexyContent objects to my own database tables.  Is it possible to remap an object so it uses data from my tables rather than the tables created by 2SexyContent?  This is the preferred method since it is easiest for me to populate database tables I create rather than using an API.

Hi Andy,

That module is quite good on what it does't, but it doesn't goo much beyond of what you see on its admin options.

1 - There is no importing nor APIs that I know of;

2 - You can build your own imports I think, but you need to figure out how they have organized their own tables and them import accordingly. You will not be able to use an external table structure.

But I have a suggestion if you want to pursue a more flexible strategy (although a bit more complex) - Use xMod. You have to pick the right tool for the job and I think you may need xMod here. It will allow you to do the same as 2sexy content + use your own tables. With xMod you will be able to create your basic CRUD in a blink of an eye.

Here is a link to xMod

And here you can find videos we have here about using xMod.

Best regards,

Aderson

Thanks Anders, I watched the videos and XMod looks pretty good too.  There is obviously more to manage but it gives you more power when compared to 2SexyContent.

I haven't installed or played with either of these yet so I can't be sure.  First impressions make me think that 2SexyContent is easier and quicker to get simple things up and running but doesn't give me the power I need for everything.  Since XMod it will be needed in some cases am I wiser to bite the bullet and do everything in XMod or would mixing uses of 2SexyContent and XMod in the be okay.

 The first factors that come to mind is the consistency of data entry.  It might be easier for users to have a consistent approach to data entry than needing to "learn" the two methods.  Both methods from the user perspective seem to be nearly the same from the videos, but I don't know if this holds true in practice.  Although it's the first thing to come to mind, it's probably not the most important.

What may be most important is how to use multiple types of data in a single template.  In the videos I watched on both modules, the page being created only dealt with a single type of content.  Can either of these modules insert multiple types of data into a template?

Thanks

"multiple types of data" - can you give me a real life example of what you mean by that?

I often have the need make a page that contains a list of product data along with other surrounding marketing content.  The product data is shared across the site where the marketing content is just the stuff for this campaign.

Describing this scenario and thinking a bit more, it sounds to me like I would probably use separate modules in this case, one for the header and one for the footer that reference a shared piece of marketing content, then a third third for the product list in the middle.
