Hello,

I've modified the xcillion theme by adding a few additional ascx page files. Now I'd like to make the changes installable on other installations so I'd like to create a new skin/theme zip file. The theme should have a new name since I don't want to overwrite the Xcillion theme that may already be installed. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this?

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

You can go to Host/Extensions - Find the skin there and click the edit icon. Then you can click "Create Package" - A wizard will come up which will allow you to repackage the skin with the new files and a new name if you want.

You can find the package at the "Install/Skin/" under the root of your DNN website

BTW, this works well on DNN 8 but it doesn't seem to be working on DNN 9.1.1

Cheers,

Aderson

Hi Aderson,

OK, I've tried but haven't been able to create the existing Xcillion skin with a new name.

I can't see my new skin listed in the Themes section under Host > Extensions. The 'skin'  was created by simply copying the Xcillion skin and container directories.

So as it's not listed, I tried 'create package' for the Xcillion skin. I can't see how to rename it. From the list of skins/themes I clicked the edit button for Xcillion, that displays a popup form with the 'create package' button which I also clicked. I then clicked 'Next' to display the list of files to be included and the source directory. I clicked next again to display the manifest (which still contains references to Xcillion obviously), then next again where I could change the name of the manifest and the name of the zip file. I can't see how I can change the name of the Theme anywhere.

I have the feeling I'm missing something rather silly.

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I hope you are trying this on a DNN8 site as this doesn't seem to be working on DNN 9.

Once you go through the process of creating the package the new skin zip gets placed inside [root]\Install\Skin\ as a zip file with the name that you have given. Don't ask me why it is placed there. Maybe because it you can now see the themes available for this site and then install it.

Cheers,

Aderson

Hi Aderson,

Thank you for your reply.

I can generate a new package OK. But surely all the references in the manifest are to Xcillion (in my case), the manifest is displayed as part of the 'create package' process and that's what I see.

Best Regards,

Steve
