Hello,

Is it possible to debug a DNN module in Visual Studio 2012 Express? I can't see an 'Attach to Process' option on the debug menu.

Do i have to buy the Visual Studio Professional edition for this? Is there any work around for this?

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I don't have experience with VS Express, but I saw this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/44...

There is a response that seems to point to an Attache option, but some users say it is not available in their version. Give it a try.

Cheers,

Aderson

Hi Aderson,

Thank you for your reply.

I had a look at the link, good idea, but that was for VS 2010 i think, Didn't work on vs 2012 Express.

I think i have no option but to get the professional edition and as vs 2013 is due out November 13th I guess i can get away with the trial version until then.

Best Regards

Steve

I also don't have experience with the Express Version.  Not having the attach option does present an obstacle.

This suggestion isn't beautiful, it's kind of like dragging your cooler through the sand at the beach when you know other people have wheels for theirs, but here it is anyway...  Debug using the log4net logging facilities.  Put in a whole bunch of "Info()" calls that print out whatever info you would normally want to view in your debugger. A plus side of doing logging is that you can leave it all in there in case you ever need to get the info again.  Just make sure your logging level is set correctly when you are done.

Not perfect, not pretty, it is painful, but when your back is against the wall it just might get you the info you need.

Good luck.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your reply and idea.

But I guess i have to bite the bullet and upgrade to vs professional, unfortunate timing with vs 2013 out in a month or so.
