DNN Multiple Portal - Shared

Hi -

I'm planning to have single DNN install with multiple parent sites under same installation. While doing so there might be few functionalities that can be lost. Im my site i have many 3rd party modules and skins. Can i know in detail what are all the components those are shared across portals?

Hi Karthikeyan,

Most modules and skins can be used in multiple portals, but it will depend on their license terms. You would have to check with each vendor individually. This is usually more an issue for modules and not so much for skins.

In regards to content itself usually modules don't allow sharing content across portals unless they explicitly mentione it.

Thank You.

In my case i will create a template site and use the template site to create multiple portals. The 3rd party skin files installed will be edited with specific header and footer. In that case if the template site uses the 3rd party skin and edited then any change in skin file will impact all other portal?

If so is there any approach to overcome?

If you make change to a skin that is used by multiple portals, then it will show up on all portals. You have two options here:

1 - Create a separate skin for each portal. I don't think it is very effective as it is a manual process, but it will work;

2 - Move the header and footer areas as part of the site's content so you can customize it without changing the skin.
