I am trying to sync up files and folders in DNN 9.1.1. In DNN 6 and 7 I could create a folder in dnn file manager then I could upload a file via ftp and click on recrusive sync and the file would show up in DNN file manager as well as in the physical fpt account.  It never worked that you could create or upload a folder via ftp in the portal's root and expect it to show in DNN file manager but you could create the folder in DNN file manager and upload files via ftp into the folder that was created in DNN which would show up in ftp client as well as DNN.

With DNN 9.1.1 when I uploada file via ftp (even if creating the folder in DNN) I can't seem to sync that file to show up in DNN site assets even when I choose to sync folders and sub folders.

The same is true in the other direction if I create a folder and upload a file through DNN file manager the file and folders shows up there but will not show up when viewing the portal root via ftp client. So I guess my question is this. Is there anyway where I can sync files so that when upladed in one plbace it would be reflected in the other so I don't see a different structure in DNN file system than I see when looking at the site portal in a ftp client like filezilla, ipswitch, or cuteftp even smartftp.

If you know any way to properly sunc folders and files in DNN so they both appear in DNN site assets as well as via ftp client that would be great. If you know of a way where I could upload a bulk amount of folders and files including sub folders in my ftp client and synching them through dNN so DNN will auto add records for folders and files in portal root that was uploaded via ftp.  Whatever advise you could give would be very helpful.

Hi Bo,

I never had problems with that to be honest with you.

So my experience is very different from yours - I just tried now on a DNN 9.1 site and when I create a folder or add a file via FTP, then I sync on site assets - They all show up inside DNN.

Make sure you click "Sync This Folder & Subfolders"

Cheers,

The new place to upload file and sync them up is site assets instead of file manager, correct?

My DNN install was a fresh install and it is the following versions 09.01.01(129). This is what it says when hovering over the DNN logo in the left side bar. This was suppose to be the stable version and what was in the recommend install of powerdnn which is my hosting company.

You don't know of some particular bug in this version that causes these file sync issues and or the skinning isses that I posted as well both of which you hadn't run into. Maybe what I am going to need to do is do a fresh DNN install on another domain and simply upload files and a free skin to that and see what happens ftp wise. I hope this doris skin didn't cause a train wreck to my file uploading functionality or skinning though I wouldn't think the issues I mentioned would be caused by skinning problem but who knows if some module that came with their skin conflicted with some core feature of DNN 9.1.1

Anyway thanks for letting me know what your experience has been.

Hello Anderson. You were right I ran into an id10 error, lol. I had two domains and one static ip address. Apparently I kept signing into the old domain that I was no longer using but still had a DNN install hanging on and so basically I signed in via ftp under the older domain instead of the domain I was trying to modify and since I was using an ip address for the host name instead of the domain name as the host name in didn't dawn on me that this was the problem the whole time. The hours I wasted all for that. But it is what it is and I thank you for trying it out on your site and telling me that as far as you could see the files showed up.  That is a big relief to me because I thought I was back to square 1 on this project.

Anyway it is all cleared up now. The lesson is don't keep your username and password that you use on production sites on the old abandoned test site. Thanks for replying and spending the time to test out my problem on your servers and verifying that you see no problem on your end.

That is correct Bo. That is the most stable version.

I haven't heard of a bug related to that, and I have been using DNN 9 VERY extensively since it's lunch. There are some bugs, but not the ones you have reported unfortunately.

As I said in the previous note, you can send me the skins I can give it a try.

Cheers,

Aderson
