Thank you for the reply and explanation. I understand the reason for a 301 redirect, but it should surely apply to the old URL(s), shouldn't it?
The new URL should have a status of 200. So I don't understand why changing the page
url more than once causes the 'page redirected too many times' error.
Also, it isn't clear from the UI that multiple redirects will occur, or at least wasn't clear to me, I only discovered it occurring when the browsers objected.
There is also a 'do not redirect' option, I haven't tried it but if it accepts the URL given in the page URL and doesn't cause
a redirect that would be a better option than deleting entries in the TabUrls table.
I would like to spend more time playing around with this, but just don't have the time to spend at the moment.
By the way, Google's Matt Cutts suggests 4 or 5 is the limit for the Google search bot:

But that seems to conflict with what the browsers allow, just two entries in the TabUrls table and it comes back with the too many redirects error.
