Hello,

I am trying to install an existing DNN 7 site onto to my local machine running Windows running 8.1 When trying to access the site I get a 404 error. Though I've been able to access a text file sitting in the same virtual directory (i.e. dnn070302.met/sometextfile.txt).

I've run through the following video a couple of times:

http://www.dnnhero.com/Premium/Tutori...

Although I copied my existing application over to the new machine as my starting point.

As well as this:

But to no avail. Anyone else had issues getting DNN to run on Windows 8.1?

Best Regards,

Steve

Can you supply some additional details?  Did you change portal aliases?

Also:

The phrase "virtual directory" bothers me.  Have you actually created a virtual directory?

Usually, if you can serve a text file and not an aspx file, that indicates an asp.net problem.  Will it serve an htm file?  Will it serve the app_offline.htm file?

I haven't installed DNN on Win 8.1, but have lots of installs on Win Server 2012, which is fairly close.

Hi Scott,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I changed the url in the host file, and mapped in the bindings but forgot about the PortalAlias table. Changed it there and it's working :-)

So you are spot on with your questions, what made you think of that?

I find it a bit a bit strange that I got a 404 error though, but that obviously made sense to you.

By the way, when I said virtual directory, I meant I put the file in the top level of the web site.

Anyway, thank you once again. It's Saturday night (here in London anyway) and I can go out and have a much better evening :-)

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

This was from Joe, not Scott :)

Cheers,

Aderson

Whoops! Sorry Joe, I just assumed it was Scott.

Thank you once again.

Best Regards,

Steve
