DISCLAIMER: I have no idea what I am doing and perhaps less about what I am talking about...

PROBLEM: I have a nifty new Bootstrap theme that uses newer versions of jquery and jquery_ui than are included/used in the DNN 7.0 Framework. I converted the theme to a skin and applied it on a page that serves as my dashboard. However, there are conflicts which have basically disabled the Add Module drag and drog control - the scroll bar disappears and I can not drop and drop the modules onto the page - and I have also seen all the dropdown menus for the command bar become disabled. Really depends on what script I have commented out or in on the theme/skin.

QUESTION: I am wondering if someone can help me understand how to use jquery in a module so the script won't conflict with the DNN Framework. Can I just use the newer jquery versions in modules and wrap them so they don't impact the rest of the page?

Thank you.

Hi Suzanne,

My disclaimer: I have not tried this before :)

Possible solution: How about you go under Host/Host Setting/Advanced Settings/JQuery Settings - Then check the box where it says "Use Hosted jQuery Version?" and replace the "Hosted jQuery URL" by the version you want to use on the site.

I would try to to see how it would behave.

Good luck!

Well, yes, I did try that and I just did it again but really, I don't see how or why that would work - which it did not - since it is the code or functions or whatever in the newer jquery/jui files that are conflicting with the framework. When I use a more recent version either in a page or via the Hosted JQuery feature in Host Settings, it does regrettable things to my site. Layout distortion and function impairment result. If I reference the newer version via the Hosted JQuery feature, it impacts the entire site. In contrast, if I leave the default DNN settings alone and only use the newer versions in a skin, or right now in a module because I lack the sophistication to know how to do it properly, on a page, only that page has the conflicts. Next idea?

This is what I would try next: http://www.willstrohl.com/Blog/PostId/375/jQuery-Tips-for-DotNetNuke-Developers

Maybe you did already.

BTW, I would love to get my hands on the skin you are trying to make this work for. I would do my own research on how to fix it and I would be happy to post a video about it.

If you want to try that, send me the files via email and I can schedule a video for the next few days. May not solve your problem immediately, but I think it would get us there.

 Cheers,

Aderson

Great reference article, thank you. Here's my first thought on it..."What?" It definitely looks like you found the solution to my issue. I would implement it if I knew how. If/when a miracle occurs and I figure it out, I will post it here for other non-developers mucking around in the fun. Just please, no one hold their breath...

Thanks for putting me on the yellow brick road. Likely I'll just stop to sleep in the poppies and that will be the end of this but you never know...

PS I sent the theme to you - I think your users would love a video about how to convert these great themes to skins for DNN.
