Hi DNN Hero! I really enjoyed your tutorial on setting up hosting of DNN sites on Amazon EC2. There isn't much information out there on this subject and your help enabled me (a non developer) to get this up and running. Seriously the tutorial was really clear and easy to follow - so thank-you.

I'm quite impressed by how easy it is to run this on EC2 and needless to say I'm quite excited to see how Amazon performs over the next month. It's also a great exercise for me as a non-developer to learn a bit more about DNN - how to install it and how to upgrade it etc.

Mainly right now I'm using the EC2 install to test things on though - but we'll see what happens...

I had a question for you and that relates to the EBS (Amazon Elastic Block Stores).

How can I ensure that my root folder and database is being saved on the Amazon EBS so that: should my instance be terminated or Stopped by Amazon when they upgrade hardware etc my database and root folder remains safe?

And also is there some software I can install on the EC2 server that automatically backs up the database and root folder to an Amazon S3 bucket? This would be very cool.

Finally I know some people who like to have the database and DNN on two separate servers - would there be any benefit or improvement for end users using this kind of setup across two EC2 instances?

Thank you very much for the kind words!

Unfortunately we don't have experience with EBS, but I can definitely address your second question.

There is a great module called DNNBackup by Evotiva which will automate you DB and sitefiles backup to Amazon S3. I use it in all our sites and it works quite well.
